Online Name-a-Card Event

Online Name-a-Card Event Sign Up

It’s almost time for our first official, non-league online event! The Name-a-Card event starts June 19th, and it’s length will depend on how many people sign up. If you’re interested in joining, please read the information below, and follow the link to sign up.

Unlike past online leagues, this will be structured more like an in person event. We will have a number of swiss rounds depending on how many are signed up, and each pairing will have one week to schedule their match with their opponent and report the results. Each pairing round will be one week, starting June 19th. Play can be either in OCTGN or Tabletop Simulator, whichever platform the 2 folks agree on. If there isn’t agreement, it will be OCTGN by default (only because it is free of cost, and we don’t wish to force people to buy TTS).

Unlike a normal in-person event, you can switch between decks each week. We recommend you stick with roughly the same deck, perhaps with some tweaks in between rounds, but if you find your deck is completely not what you expected it’s ok to switch. The online badge events later this year will require the same deck the whole time, but we aren’t going to strictly lock decks in for this event.

All other rules will follow the normal tournament floor rules, and most up to date Doomtown rulebook.

Please follow the Google Form link below to sign up (no cost). Really looking forward to seeing you guys online for this first-of-its-kind event!

Oh I wish I knew how to play online lol I wish this was available on iPad or something

There are lots of friendly people on Discord – including me – who would be very happy to walk you through a game or two, so, I’m not taking you wish you knew how to play as an excuse! Hope to see you in town square soon!

What are the rules of you’re not able to schedule a match in the weeks notice? This could easily be a problem during summer holidays.

Some extra clarifications:

*Matches will be timed at 2 hours by default (to make up for extra technology-laden slowness, especially to be more friendly to folks who are new to OCTGN/TTS). But if the 2 players agree, they can make any time limit they wish, or none at all.

*If 2 players cannot find a time that meets their schedule, we’ll do our best to work with them. If we have to delay the next round a little, that’s probably ok as long as there is some hope for a match in a reasonable time, but we’ll take it as it comes.

*However, if one player either does not respond at all, or consistently has zero availability, they will be marked as a loss.

*If both players do not respond or report in for the whole week, it will be marked as a draw.

Any other ideas for making this a smooth, fair, and competitive but fun experience, please post them!

Looks like we’ll be doing 5 rounds, with a whopping 26 people signed up! Cut will be to top 8 (at which point you’ll have to officially stick with one deck for the remainder)

Good luck and have fun to all!

Congratulations to @Ironcache who took down the event in the finals vs @Doomdog!

Check out any of the links above to see the full results, if you like.

This was a well attended event, and a true pleasure to run. I did not expect the weekly match ups would go so well, with everyone being very understanding about the few times that a match couldn’t be played on time and the player willingly forfeiting for that round. It’s clear just getting to play some Doomtown was the main goal, which is awesome!!!

Promos will probably be mailed out after the Ranger and Gencon events are finishing up, so we can bundle them all together, so stay tuned to give us your addresses.
