Interaction between Soul Cage and Ivor Hawley exp. 1

During a shootout, my opponent cheats and I use Soul Cage. His hand rank was 4 (three of a kind). There are 5 abominations in play.

Can I then play Ivor Hawley from my discard pile? Or does the cost reduction only work if he is played from hand?

If he can be put into play, I can then play 2 abominations from my boot hill. Where do these go? There is no location specified, so I guess they are put into play the same way as if they would have been played from hand?

Hi Kees! He can be put into play with the cost reduction, however, per his errata:

React: After Ivor enters play from your hand , play up to two H exes or A bominations from your Boot Hill. Reduce those cards’ cost by 3 each.

Thanks for the question! Ivor’s cost reduction trait is active when he’s played from hand, or while he’s in boot hill. Which makes him an eligible target for Soul Cage, in the scenario you describe.
