If I use Johnny Brocklehurst:

React: After you declare a play, give a dude +1 or -1 influence for the duration of that play.

to ensure that the combo of Great Sage Matches Heaven triggers, does his Influence bonus still apply when I follow up with Behold White Bull?

These are considered multiple plays; you may react with Brocklehurst prior to the technique you want him to assist with.
