Tolarios searching deck and discard

Tolarios says: “Lower that dude’s bounty by 1 to search your deck or discard pile for a non-Unique Miracle or non-Unique Mystical goods, reveal it, and add it to your hand.”

If I use Tolarios, and search my deck, but don’t find what I want, can I then search my discard for the card I want?

This came up Saturday, and was ruled I could not search discard since it says “or” , but English could allow for searching both, as ‘or’ is not necessarily exclusive. Considering you are allowed to search your discard at nearly any time, could get messy, but also not a big deal as long as we know the rule.

The OR here is not meant to be exclusive. If you need a reason to clarify, you are right. The fact that you are allowed (and your opponent) to know what is in your discard, you’ll know whether or not you have an appropriate target in your discard.

Just to be super clear. You are not prevented from getting a card out of your discard just because you searched and failed to find one in your deck.
